On Sunday, April 8, the Orange County Register announced the 2018 OC Varsity Arts Artist of the Year semi-finalists, including three Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) seniors. Congratulations to Valencia High School (VHS) student, Masey Park, for her recognition in the 3D visual arts category, as well as Yorba Linda High School (YLHS) students, Nicholas Franklyn and Alexandra Lee, for their nominations in the film/animation category.
From an initial list of 33 nominees, Valencia’s Masey Park has been identified as one of just seven semi-finalists in the 3D visual arts category for her work in ceramics.
In the category of film/animation, Yorba Linda’s Nicholas Franklyn and Alexandra Lee were named semi-finalists alongside just nine other students from an initial list of 42 nominees. Both students are being recognized for their work in directing and editing.
Masey, Nicholas, and Alexandra were hand selected as semi-finalists by a panel of art and film teachers based on extensive applications, art portfolios or films, and artistic resumes.
According to the Orange County Register, the students will now move on to be interviewed by a panel of distinguished artistic professionals and faculty members from Southern California universities, as well as a few high school teacher representatives. Finalists in each category will be named, and then the 2018 Artists of the Year will be announced on Sunday, April 22.
Congratulations to our student artists, and we wish you the best of luck in advancing to the final round of the program. To see the full list of Orange County Artist of the Year nominees for 2018, please follow the link below.
