Special Olympic athletes have a successful season competing in track, bocce ball, and more

PYLUSD Special Olympic athletes.

In mid-June, the 2018 spring sports season for Placentia- Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Special Olympics Bocce Ball and Track teams concluded. Special athletes from several schools in PYLUSD participated including Valencia, El Dorado, Esperanza, Topaz, Wagner, and George Key schools in several local competitions. At the Orange County Regional games competition held in Irvine in late May, athlete Ayden Downen from Topaz Elementary School was chosen to carry the torch for opening ceremonies.

Over the weekend of June 9-10, a select group of PYLUSD athletes were chosen to represent the District at the the Special Olympics Southern California Summer Games which were held at Cal State Long Beach. Special athletes gathered from all over Southern California to compete in many different sports such as Basketball, Football, Swimming, Bocce Ball, and Track and Field. The PYLUSD Bocce team Noah Academia, Stephanie Monroy, Emily Wright (Valencia High) and Allie Parizino (Esperanza) nicknamed ” Noah and the Bocce Babes” took home the silver medal in their division.

Meanwhile track athletes Sean Boots (Esperanza) and Antonio Perez (El Dorado) also represented PYLUSD. They won medals the 50 meter run, the 100 meter run and the long jump.
