Community shows George Key School extra love this Valentine’s Day

Valentine's Day at George Key.

George Key students were shown a great deal of love this Valentine’s Day by the community and by students in Mrs. Hanna’s 4th grade class from Golden Elementary School.

Their school community supplied a whirlwind of generosity and kindness in benefit of the students. Typically, George Key does not celebrate Valentine’s Day like at other schools. They generally do not bring special notes from home to share with their friends, as most are not able to do so. On the contrary, the students at George Key love to interact with others and they get joy from receiving cards and gifts from others.

This year, the students received Valentine’s cards, candies, toys, and handmade gifts that poured into the school. From community members, to local schools, to girl scout troops, there was a steady stream of new friends and neighbors bringing Valentine’s fun to the school.

As you can see from the pictures, by the time February 14 rolled around, the staff set up multiple tables with Valentines.

Mrs. Hanna’s 4th grade students helped out by greeting students with a smile, filling their bags with treats, and sharing a “Happy Valentine’s Day” message.

“It was an honor to witness such a selfless event where our students engaged with some of their typical peers in a real Valentine’s Day party,” Principal Kim Smith stated. “Thank you to everyone who participated in this event. The students, parents, and staff were overwhelmed by your showing of love!”
