On Wednesday, December 18, over 85 students from Esperanza High School arrived at Ruby Drive Elementary with nearly 425 holiday gifts for all Preppy K through sixth grade students.
Esperanza students in clubs, sports, and various programs partnered with one of the twenty two classrooms at Ruby Drive to present the students with gifts in time for the holiday season. Ruby Drive has just over 400 students and each gift was personally bought and given by an EHS student.
“This is the first year Esperanza High School put on this holiday exchange. We wanted this to be more of an exchange than a handout. The elementary kids did sang a song or made a craft for us, so in return we gave gifts to make everyone’s holiday a little brighter,” Esperanza Activities Director Meghann Lukach shared. “It’s the season of giving and it’s important to show if you have something to give, give it.
ASB student Megan Spears, who played a role in organizing the exchange, stated, “It’s important for people to see how something so small can make such a big impact. At any time, not just the holidays, doing small acts of kindness can do more than you think.”
It was a joyful morning filled with gifts, smiles, and holiday spirit! Way to go, Aztecs.
