Valencia High School’s National Honor Society (NHS) now offers Tiger Tutoring for Future Tigers to elementary students who attend Melrose, Ruby, Morse, and Van Buren. Tiger Tutoring for Future Tigers is facilitated by 11th and 12th grade NHS students. Students in NHS have demonstrated excellence in academics, character, leadership, and service to their community. They are enrolled in rigorous courses, have a minimum 3.5 GPA, and strive to make their community a better place.
Tiger Tutors are trained in peer tutoring and use AVID tutoring methods to assist students in identifying points of confusion in their learning. Tiger Tutors ask questions to develop higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills within the young students.
“The addition of elementary students to Tiger Tutoring has been a fun change this semester. The Future Tigers bring energy and excitement to each tutoring session which has invigorated the NHS students. The NHS students have taken great pride in helping the Future Tigers and have been eager to work with returning students. I look forward to continuing this partnership with the elementary schools,” NHS Advisor, Lauren Bakunas, said.
