On Thursday, June 17, Valencia High School (VHS) held its 86th commencement ceremony where over 600 seniors were presented their high school diploma in Bradford Stadium. The VHS Class of 2021 included 72 candidates for International Baccalaureate (IB) diplomas and 122 Val Tech diploma recipients as well as 145 collegiate scholars and 18 National Merit Finalists.
Thursday’s ceremony included honored guests such as Board of Education President, Karin Freeman, Vice President, Carrie Buck, Clerk, Marilyn Anderson, as well as Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Superintendent Dr. Jim Elsasser, Assistant Superintendents, Dr. Linda Adamson and Rick Lopez, Executive Director, Richard McAlindin, and Directors, Nancy Blade, Keith Carmona, and Olivia Yaung, and Principal, Chris Herzfeld.
Students Cassidy Lee, Alexis Mendoza Vazquez, Anne Marie Mayfield, and Yesenia Benavides delivered speeches filled with reflective memories and heartfelt gratitude towards VHS, fellow graduates, and supportive loved ones. After Principal Herzfeld congratulated the Class of 2021 and instructed the students to turn their tassels from right to left, the stadium roared with cheers for the Tigers. Congratulations, graduates!
