Kraemer Middle School is proud to announce Edwin Sanchez Contreras as one of only seven 2021 Angels 8th Grade AVID Scholars. His award includes a $10,000 college scholarship upon completion of 4 years of AVID in high school. Additionally, Edwin received a medallion, certificate, and laptop computer.
The rigorous application for this prestigious award included a formal interview with OCDE and the Angels Baseball Foundation alongside submission of transcripts, a teacher letter of recommendation, proof of involvement in community service and leadership positions, and a student essay.
As an AVID National Demonstration school, Kraemer Middle continues to innovate, ensuring students are college and career ready. On 5/19, the school hosted a Virtual Career Day event thanks to the assistance of 20 local professionals. “Our goal is to continually inspire all students to think about their bright futures,” shared Principal Mike Young.
Edwin plans on attending Esperanza High school as an AVID student in the fall. Teacher Mrs. Toxqui shared, “I have been both his AVID 7 and AVID 8 teacher and could not be prouder of him!” While the awards ceremony is normally hosted at Angel Stadium, this year OCDE posted a virtual recognition page HERE.”
