Notably, 87% of those seniors have enrolled to continue their education in two or four-year colleges or universities following graduation. In addition, the YLHS Class of 2023 earned $3.6 million dollars in scholarships and 23 were identified as National Merit Scholarship Program finalists or semifinalists.
The ceremony included honored guests such as Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Board of Education President Shawn Youngblood, Vice President Leandra Blades, Clerk Todd Frazier as well as Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Assistant Superintendent David Giordano, Directors Renee Gray and Dr. Shelley Spessard, and Principal Dr. Richard Dinh.
Student speakers for the ceremony included Julian Lisboa, Lauryn Tran, and Joshua Mallers, who all shared notes of gratitude for their high school experience and well wishes for their fellow graduates.
Dr. Dinh also addressed the graduating students, sharing “…when you leave this stadium tonight, remember what you overcame. Be confident that you are stronger because of it. Congratulations Class of 2023!”
