On Thursday, June 15, Valencia High School (VHS) held its commencement ceremony in honor of the Class of 2023 where 580 seniors were presented their high school diplomas in Bradford Stadium.
The graduating class included 70 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma candidates, a record number of Val Tech diploma recipients at 168, and 66 AVID students. Notably, 41 students were dual Val Tech/International Baccalaureate diploma earners and 11 were dual Val Tech/AVID. Ninty-three percent of the seniors reported they will attend a two or four-year college following their K-12 education.
Thursday’s ceremony included honored guests such as Board of Education President Shawn Youngblood and Trustee Marilyn Anderson as well as Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss, Assistant Superintendent Richard McAlindin, and Directors Gina Aguilar, Alyssa Griffiths, Bradd Runge, and Shelley Spessard, and Principal Chris Herzfeld.
Students Mike Lee, Lesley Lopez, and Mina Iskander delivered speeches filled with memories and gratitude toward VHS, fellow graduates, and supportive loved ones.
After Trustee Anderson accepted the Class of 2023 as having met all of the requirements to earn their diplomas, Principal Herzfeld congratulated the Class of 2023 and asked students to turn their tassels from right to left. The stadium roared with cheers for the Tigers and caps in the air. Congratulations, Tigers!
