Students from China visit district schools

In February, several PYLUSD schools hosted student visitors from China.

El Dorado High School
El Dorado hosted 51 high school students from China from Monday, Feb. 1, through Friday, Feb. 5. These students were paired with El Dorado associated student body (ASB) students, and shadowed them throughout their day. This was an amazing experience for both the visiting students and our entire campus. Activities Director Eron Campuzano and Principal Joey Davis welcomed the visitors with a ceremony in the Joe Raya gym Monday morning. Ceramics teacher Jeff Picou helped the Chinese students create a small medallion to commemorate their visit to EDHS.

Esperanza High School
Esperanza hosted six Chinese students. The students shadowed an Esperanza student throughout the school day. The Chinese guests enjoyed being a part of an American high school, as well as learning more about American culture. Some of the more memorable experiences were all the activities that take place at lunch, the food and a physics class. This was a great opportunity for both the Chinese and Esperanza students by learning about each other’s culture, and also learning about what they all have in common.

Bernardo Yorba Middle School
Bernardo Yorba was visited by 14 students from China. These students spent the week with Bernardo Yorba eighth graders as they went through their typical day at school. They were able to participate in lunchtime activities, and they also shared in a pizza party with their BYMS shadow student. The experience was invaluable for our visitors, as they weigh their options on whether or not they choose to pursue an education in America. The exchange was equally valuable for Bernardo students, as they forged friendships with their Chinese counterparts. It was a wonderful learning opportunity for all, and Bernardo Yorba looks forward to future opportunities to represent our district to visitors from other countries.
