The PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students in grades K-12. It provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively, and to receive positive recognition for original works of art. The hope of the Program is to increase community awareness on the importance of the arts in education.
The Fourth District PTA consists of 19 Orange County councils, of which Placentia/Yorba Linda Unified Council is a member. More than 275 units at schools throughout Orange County participated in the Fourth District Reflections Program this year, with a total of more than 10,000 entries.
Participation is organized by artistic discipline and school grade. This year, the following students from the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) received various awards for their art:
- In the category of Literature, the “Award of Excellence” for middle/junior high schools was given to Tobi Park from Kraemer Middle School.
- In the category of Visual Arts, the “Award of Excellence” for primary (preschool to second grade) schools was given to Sarah Kang at Travis Ranch School. The “Award of Excellence” for intermediate (third to fifth grade) schools was given to Kaitlyn Amid from Fairmont Elementary School. Additionally, an “Honorable Mention” recognition for high schools was given to Risa Kuper from Esperanza High School.
- In the category of Film/Video Production, an “Honorable Mention” recognition for middle/junior high schools was given to Gigi Pirone from Sierra Vista Elementary School.
- In the category of Dance Choreography, the “Award of Merit” for primary (preschool to second grade) schools was given to Aubrie Heyer from Travis Ranch School. The “Award of Merit” for middle/junior high schools was given to Mikayla DeJong from Kraemer Middle School.
- In the category of Photography, the “Award of Merit” for intermediate (third to fifth grade) schools was given to Aileen Santiago from Van Buren Elementary School.
- Finally, in the category of Music Composition, the “Award of Excellence” for high schools was given to Valerie Narumi from Valencia High School. Additionally, an “Honorable Mention” recognition for middle/junior high schools was given to Victoria Taberski from Kraemer Middle School.
All “Awards of Excellence” winners will advance to the California State PTA for consideration. The California State PTA will then select a number of entries to advance to the National PTA.
