Valencia High School Students Win Top Honors in Lions Club Student Speaker Contest

District 4-C6 of the Lions Club recently held their 85th Annual Student Speaker Contest, which gives local students the opportunity to give an original speech on a topic decided by the Lions Club Board of Governors. This year’s topic was “For a Better World, What Would You Change?”

Mentored by Drama/Speech Teacher, Tara Filowitz, Valencia High School students participated and had three winners! The winner of the club level event was 9th grader, Aarna Vaiyapuri. She will be moving on to the regional level contest on Monday, March 4, at 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Hall in La Habra. Runners up were students Ravali Vallurupalli and Suren Sanjay, and all three were awarded cash prizes.

The Lions Club International is made up of 1.4 million members in 49,000 clubs who bring hands and hearts to the communities we serve in nearly every country on earth. The Lions help hundreds of millions of people every year through their local chapters, such as 4-C6 in Orange County. Their numerous programs are related to and encourage youth participation in the world, such as halting diabetes, sharing the vision, relieving hunger, protecting our environment, and providing disaster relief.
