On Monday, October 8, El Dorado High School hosted a special event to unveil its brand-new turf field lighting system, a project representing much more than an infrastructure upgrade. Principal David Okamoto welcomed attendees, sharing that the new lights reflect the school’s commitment to creating an environment where students can excel both academically and athletically.
In his remarks, Principal Okamoto expressed sincere gratitude to the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Board of Education for their support. He also acknowledged key district leaders, including Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss and the Excecutive Cabinet for their instrumental roles in bringing the project to life.
The lighting system will offer El Dorado’s student-athletes greater flexibility for practices and games while fostering a stronger sense of community as evening events become more feasible. “These lights represent opportunities—opportunities for growth, excellence, and pride in our school,” said Okamoto.
Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss added, “These lights symbolize brighter opportunities, extended playtimes, and countless unforgettable memories for our students and families.” He also thanked the Maintenance, Facilities, and Construction team for their dedication in making the vision a reality.
Board President Leandra Blades further emphasized the lights’ role in supporting the school’s commitment to “Putting Kids First” by enhancing both academic and extracurricular experiences. As the ceremony concluded, students and community members gathered on the newly illuminated field, marking a bright new chapter for El Dorado High School.
