First Annual Athletics Banquet Highlights Valadez's Commitment to Character and Competition

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Valadez Middle School Academy proudly hosted its inaugural Athletics Banquet, an evening dedicated to celebrating the hard work, growth, and achievements of Valadez’s exceptional student-athletes. The event brought together more than 135 students, their families, coaches, and staff to reflect on a season marked not only by competition but also by resilience, teamwork, and personal development.

Throughout the night, teams and individuals were recognized for their dedication across a range of sports: volleyball, cross country and track, soccer, flag football, and wrestling. The evening was a powerful reminder that the values built through athletics, discipline, perseverance, and leadership extend far beyond the scoreboard.

Special recognition was given to our incredible coaching staff: Jeffrey Udarbe, Marisa Cruz, Amanda Peronto, Leslie Poling, Adam Suarez, Alex Lomeli, William Garcia, David Ballard, and Adam Amezcua. As Principal Truong shared during the event, “You’ve taught our students how to throw, sprint, shoot, and spike, but even more importantly, you’ve supported their growth in teamwork, perseverance, and confidence. That kind of guidance goes far beyond the scoreboard.”

Families were also honored for the vital role they play, cheering in the stands, providing rides, and encouraging their students to stay committed. Students joined in a heartfelt moment of appreciation for their families and coaches, recognizing the community that supports their success.

A special thank-you went to Athletic Director Ayerim Flores, whose tireless work behind the scenes made everything possible. From organizing logistics to coordinating schedules and equipment, Mrs. Flores was recognized as a driving force behind the strength and spirit of Valadez athletics.

Principal Truong also shared a message of encouragement with students as they look ahead:
“Athletics often reflect the same challenges we face in life. In both sports and in our future, discipline, determination, and the habit of showing up, especially when no one is watching, are what build true character. And it’s that character, along with hard work, that will carry you toward whatever goals you set.”

The night ended with the presentation of individual awards such as MVP, Sportsmanship, Most Improved, Most Ambitious, Best Attitude, Team Spirit, Coach’s Award, and more, as each student-athlete was recognized for their unique contributions. The banquet was not only a celebration of a successful season, it was a tribute to the supportive, spirited community that makes Valadez Athletics so special.
