On June 4, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District’s (PYLUSD) Adult Transition Program, known as Venture Academy, held its annual graduation ceremony to honor the Class of 2025. This significant event took place at the PYLUSD Performing Arts Center in Placentia, marking a momentous occasion for the 20 graduates.
The ceremony commenced with a procession of the graduates, followed by a warm welcome from Principal Rebecca Allan. She extended her greetings to the distinguished guests in attendance, including Board President Marilyn Anderson, Vice President Carrie Buck and Trustee Tricia Quintero, Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services Renee Gray, Director of Special Education Gwen Redira. Principal Allan also expressed her gratitude to the families, staff members, and most importantly, the graduates who were the stars of the evening.
The event was highlighted by heartfelt speeches from students each of them shared their experiences and expressed profound gratitude for the adult transition program and its dedicated staff.
Gwen Redira, Director of Special Education , delivered an inspiring keynote address, commending the graduates for their remarkable growth and achievements. “You’ve learned to navigate the world in your own way—with resilience, with heart, and with determination. Whether it was learning to ride the bus, mastering job skills, cooking a meal, or handling personal responsibilities—these accomplishments are real, they are powerful, and they are yours. As you move beyond the structure of school your learning never stops. Every day ahead is a chance to grow, to try something new, to push yourself further, and to be proud of who you are becoming. Your independence doesn’t mean doing everything alone—it means knowing how to make choices, how to ask for support when you need it, and how to live a life that reflects your hopes and goals.” she remarked. She emphasized how the skills, experiences, and friendships forged at Venture Academy will provide a robust foundation for the graduates’ future endeavors.
The audience was then treated to a performance by Venture Academy’s choir, directed by staff member Carmen Coindreau Gonzalez. This performance was the result of many afternoons spent in practice, where students honed their musical abilities and built self-esteem under Ms. Gonzalez’s guidance.
Trustee Tricia Quintero formally accepted the Class of 2025, acknowledging their successful completion of all program requirements. She offered heartfelt words of encouragement and praise, recognizing the hard work and dedication of these young adults.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates of completion to each graduate by Venture Academy teachers, marking the culmination of their journey at the academy. The evening was a testament to the perseverance, growth, and achievements of the Class of 2025. Congratulations to all the graduates
