Middle School Students Compete in Inaugural PYLUSD Esports Tournament

On Friday, June 6, approximately 50 middle school students representing Kraemer, Tuffree, Valadez, Yorba Linda, Travis Ranch, and the Orange County School of Computer Science (OCSCS) participated in the inaugural Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Middle School Esports Tournament, hosted at Valencia High School.

The event, which took place in Valencia’s gymnasium, featured a double-elimination Rocket League competition that mirrored the atmosphere and professionalism of a high-caliber Esports tournament. In a highly competitive final match, Kraemer Middle School emerged victorious over Valadez Middle School with a final score of 6-1, earning the title of District Champions.

The championship match began with Valadez securing an early lead, but Kraemer responded swiftly with a goal of their own to even the score. Although the final score reflected a sizable margin, the gameplay remained competitive throughout, showcasing both teams’ strong fundamentals, defensive coordination, technical skill, and strategic teamwork.

Kraemer’s winning team included students Tyce Gramer, Landon Partida, and Nathan Moran, under the guidance of coaches Ryan Broadwater and Samuel Christy. Valadez was represented by students Jonathan Trejo, Michael Banuelos, and Nathan Lopez Equihua, with coaching support from Sue Sawyer. The strong performance by both teams reflected the depth and quality of their respective Esports programs.

Congratulations are extended to all participating schools and students for an outstanding first tournament. The district looks forward to the continued growth and development of its middle school Esports programs in the years to come.
