Yorba Linda High School Theatre Department Recognized with Prestigious 2025 Macy Award

The Yorba Linda High School (YLHS) Theatre Department, under the direction of Mrs. Cathy Petz, was awarded the 2025 Macy Award for Best Musical for its spring production of Bright Star. This recognition, presented annually to honor excellence in high school theatre, is particularly noteworthy as YLHS was selected from among 47 productions representing 38 high schools across Orange County.

This accolade marks the second consecutive year that the YLHS Theatre Department has earned the distinction of Best Musical, having received the award in 2024 for its production of Oklahoma! The department’s achievement reflects a sustained commitment to artistic excellence and student talent.

In addition to the department-wide recognition, the Bright Star cast received several individual honors. Notable awards included Best Dramatic Actress awarded to Leillah Huttner, Best Dramatic Actor awarded to Andrew Gardner, Best Supporting Actress awarded to Addy Shoup, and Best Comedian awarded to Carter Gaiss. The production also garnered 15 additional individual medals. Furthermore, the department’s fall musical, Chicago, received 13 individual medals, underscoring the breadth and consistency of student achievement in the performing arts program.
