Fourth graders at Lakeview Elementary School recently took part in the first-ever “I-Kid-A-Rod.” This activity accompanies the reading of the novel “Stone Fox,” as well as the study of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Students participated in six different stations, including relay races at an Iditarod checkpoint, being part of a dog sled team and following the commands of a musher, and using map scale skills to figure out distances between checkpoints on the race trail. Students were then treated to a Slurpee when they “crossed the finish line.”
