Lakeview 3rd graders celebrate Bus Driver Appreciation Day

Bus driver appreciation

Lakeview’s 3rd graders in Mrs. Riggio’s & Mrs. Olson’s class celebrated Bus Driver Appreciation Day on April 25, 2023.

In Camp Olson/Riggio, students have been learning about and learning how to apply many different important character traits that exemplify PYLUSD’s Core Values of Excellence, Collaboration, Integrity, and Innovation.

April’s character trait is humbleness/humility. After reading the story, Humble Ninja, by Mary Nhin, Lakeview’s lions learned that showing appreciation for others is an important piece of walking in humility.

After a class discussion about the importance of each individuals’ gifts and contributions one makes to help communities and organizations work well and flow, bus drivers were chosen as an important piece to PYLUSD’s school communities and district!

Students brainstormed positive contributions that bus drivers bring to PYLUSD and then wrote heartfelt appreciation cards to them. They also added in a little M&M treat for each bus driver to remind them that we are grateful for the “Miles & Miles” they go for all of us.

All items were creatively delivered to the bus driver headquarters at the district office with this special poem:

We want to thank you, bus driver,
For helping each of us,
And driving us so safely in that,
Great, big, yellow bus,
Your kindness and your friendliness,
Go such a long, long way,
In driving us to our school,
To have a happy, happy day!
We ‘WHEELIE” appreciate you!!!!!!
