Tuffree Middle School Hosts First Annual Día de Muertos Showcase

Tuffree Middle School Hosts First Annual Día de Muertos Showcase

On October 28, 2025, Tuffree Middle School proudly hosted its inaugural Día de Muertos Showcase, presented by the Dual Language Academy. The event served as a celebration of student creativity, cultural appreciation, and community engagement.

Students in the Dual Language Academy created acrostic poems to honor deceased loved ones, reflecting thoughtfully on their lives and memories while incorporating traditional elements of an ofrenda. In a collaborative effort, the Dual Language Academy partnered with the Spanish 1 program to design a community altar displayed in the school library. The altar, adorned with photographs, butterflies, and marigolds, provided a shared space of remembrance for students, staff, and families.

Attendees participated in a variety of interactive activities, including contributing flowers to the Jardín de Recuerdos (Memory Garden), face painting, and creating calavera (sugar skull) art. Traditional refreshments such as pan dulce, coffee, and horchata added to the festive and welcoming atmosphere.

The evening offered students and families a meaningful opportunity to celebrate art, tradition, and culture while honoring the spirit of Día de Muertos and strengthening connections within the school community.
