On Wednesday, November 5, Kraemer Middle School and Ruby Drive Elementary School partnered once again to participate in Read for the Record, an annual literacy initiative designed to promote a love of reading and strengthen connections across school communities.
Students from Kraemer’s PEER Leadership and GEAR UP classes enthusiastically joined Ruby Drive’s transitional kindergarten and first-grade students to read The Snowy Day by author Ezra Jack Keats. Following the shared reading experience, Kraemer students engaged their younger buddies in a variety of interactive activities held in Ruby Drive’s multipurpose room. These collaborative exercises reinforced core literacy and comprehension skills from the first-grade curriculum while fostering creativity, teamwork, and mentorship. Transitional kindergarten students also participated in themed activities, including crafting snowmen and enjoying a playful snowball toss.
Both Ruby Drive Elementary and Kraemer Middle School proudly hold the esteemed distinction of being AVID National Demonstration Schools. Advancement Via Individual Determination equips educators with research-based strategies that accelerate learning and prepare students for success in college, career, and life. Kraemer and Ruby Drive’s collaborative efforts exemplify how purposeful partnerships can make reading both meaningful and enjoyable for students of all ages.
