On Wednesday, November 5, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) proudly hosted its 49th annual Band Pageant at Bradford Stadium in Placentia. This highly anticipated event featured student performers from all six PYLUSD middle schools and all four comprehensive high schools, who came together to showcase their musical and artistic excellence. Thousands of enthusiastic family members, educators, administrators, and community supporters attended to celebrate this longstanding district tradition.
The evening began with individual parade march performances by each school’s band and color guard. Following these presentations, PYLUSD Superintendent Dr. Kym LeBlanc-Esparza extended a warm welcome and expressed appreciation for the community’s continued support of arts education and its vital role in student development.
“As a newcomer to the district, one of the first things I noticed is how deeply PYLUSD values opportunities for students to learn, grow, and shine, not just in academics and athletics, but through the arts as well,” Dr. Kym shared. “We believe that when students participate in music, they gain far more than technical skills. They develop leadership, creativity, and collaboration—qualities that will serve them well in school and in life.”
Under the direction of Taylor Smith, co-band director at El Dorado High School, all ten bands united on the field to perform stirring renditions of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “Sounds of Sousa.” After a brief intermission, the district’s high school drumlines delivered a dynamic group performance under the leadership of Eric Samson, also co-band director at El Dorado High School. Each high school then presented its individual field show, highlighting the unique artistry, precision, and spirit of its music program.
The Band Pageant once again served as a celebration of imagination, talent, and community, reflecting the district’s strong commitment to visual and performing arts education.
