On Friday, February 27, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) hosted a Long-Term English Learner (LTEL) Family Night in collaboration with Melrose Elementary School and Valadez Middle School Academy. The event was designed to support the families of Long-Term English Learners by bringing students and their families together for an evening focused on connection, learning, and celebration.
Families shared dinner while participating in activities aimed at gathering valuable feedback to better support students on their path toward reclassification. Long-Term English Learners are defined as students who have been enrolled in a United States school for six years or more but have not yet been reclassified as fluent English proficient. During the event, families learned about ELPAC scores, discussed goal-setting strategies to support their students’ academic progress, and received practical tools to reinforce learning at home.
The evening also featured engaging activities and prize giveaways, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all who attended. The strong participation of families reflected a shared commitment to supporting student achievement and language development.
PYLUSD extends its appreciation to the families and staff whose collaboration helped make this meaningful event possible.
