The Orange County Gang Reduction and Intervention Partnership (OC GRIP) facilitated a Soccer Athletic Enrichment Activity hosted at Ruby Drive Elementary School over a three-day period from April 6–8, 2026, during spring break. The program demonstrated strong student interest and engagement, exceeding capacity with 41 participants filling 40 available positions. Students representing four schools within the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District attended, including 15 students from Ruby Drive, 10 from Melrose Elementary School, 9 from Topaz Elementary School, and 7 from Rio Vista Elementary School.
Throughout the activity, students participated in structured soccer sessions alongside law enforcement personnel, with an emphasis on fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive character development. Each participant received a resource bag that included a soccer ball to encourage continued engagement in physical activity beyond the program.
In addition to athletic participation, the enrichment experience incorporated career exploration opportunities through interactive presentations delivered by law enforcement units, including Traffic, SWAT, and K9 teams. The Traffic unit provided instruction on road safety and accident prevention, while the SWAT team offered insights into specialized law enforcement operations, highlighting the importance of collaboration, preparation, and discipline. The K9 unit delivered a particularly engaging demonstration, illustrating the role of trained canines in detection and protection, and contributing to a dynamic and memorable learning environment.
The program provided students with meaningful opportunities to develop interpersonal skills, build confidence, and establish positive connections with community partners. The district expresses appreciation for its continued collaboration with OC GRIP in delivering impactful experiences that support student growth and broaden awareness of future pathways in public service.
