Bryant Ranch Elementary School second-grade students recently participated in an engaging educational field trip to the Heritage Museum of Orange County, where they toured the historic Kellogg House and gained firsthand insight into life during the Victorian era.
Throughout the visit, students explored the home’s various rooms and learned how families lived more than a century ago, examining the purpose and function of different household spaces. A highlight of the experience was the opportunity to dress in Victorian-era attire, allowing students to immerse themselves in the historical period and deepen their understanding of the past.
Students also attended a blacksmithing demonstration, where they learned about the significance of this skilled trade and its role in supporting daily life and community development during the 19th century. In addition, they explored historical toys and games, making meaningful comparisons between childhood recreation in the past and present day.
The field trip provided several hands-on learning opportunities, including demonstrations of traditional household chores. Students discovered how butter was churned and laundry was completed before the advent of modern appliances, fostering a greater appreciation for the technological advancements that have transformed everyday life.
The day concluded with lunch on the museum grounds, providing students an opportunity to reflect on their experiences and share their learning with classmates.
Through interactive activities and historical exploration, the field trip enriched students’ understanding of local history and life in the Victorian era. Bryant Ranch students represented their school with enthusiasm, curiosity, and thoughtful engagement throughout the experience.
