On May 13, eighth-grade AVID Standout Students representing all six middle schools within the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) were recognized by the Orange County Department of Education during a ceremony held at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
Ommar Rubalcava was selected as Kraemer Middle School’s AVID Standout Student in recognition of his resilience, gratitude, and optimism. He demonstrates a strong commitment to honoring his family’s sacrifices while striving to create greater opportunities for both himself and his family. His consistent display of kindness, leadership, and dedication to service and academic achievement has distinguished him as an exemplary student and valued member of the school community.
Rocco Genotti was recognized as the AVID Standout Student for Travis Ranch Middle School due to his exceptional academic leadership, social influence, and positive presence on campus. According to his AVID 8 instructor, he exemplifies maturity, dedication, and genuine compassion toward others. As an immigrant, he contributes a valuable global perspective to the school community and inspires peers through his authenticity, integrity, and leadership. His ability to foster positivity and encourage individuality among fellow students reflects the qualities of a forward-thinking and impactful student leader.
Natasha Vela was selected as Tuffree Middle School’s AVID Standout Student based on her commitment to both personal and academic development, strong academic performance, and active participation within the school community. She is recognized for her resilience, kindness, diligence, and goal-oriented mindset, all of which demonstrate her considerable potential for future success.
Daraly Guerrero Espinoza was honored as Valadez Middle School’s AVID Standout Student for her consistent pursuit of excellence and for embodying the values associated with the Valadez Eagle community. She regularly exceeds academic expectations through her strong understanding of course content and enthusiasm for learning. In addition to her academic accomplishments, she is regarded as a model student whose focus, attentiveness, respectfulness, and kindness positively influence those around her.
Zoe Manawil was selected as Yorba Linda Middle School’s AVID 8th Grade Standout Student for exemplifying leadership, dedication, and compassion both within and beyond the classroom environment. In her roles as an AVID student and Associated Student Body Activities Commissioner, she actively supports her peers and contributes to strengthening the school community. Her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to service distinguish her as an exceptional student leader.
AVID, an acronym for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system designed to support students with postsecondary potential by preparing them to successfully matriculate to higher education institutions, persist through their studies, and ultimately earn a college degree.
