Eight schools within the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) have received formal recognition from California PBIS for exemplary implementation of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. Fairmont Elementary was awarded Platinum Recognition, while Brookhaven Elementary School, Topaz Elementary School earned Gold Recognition. Valadez Middle School Academy, Sierra Vista Elementary, Rose Drive Elementary, Melrose Elementary and Travis Ranch School achieved Silver Recognition for its commitment to PBIS principles.
California PBIS administers a statewide recognition system honoring schools that demonstrate fidelity to the national PBIS framework. Schools may be recognized at the Platinum, Gold, Silver, or Bronze levels, depending on their degree of implementation.
According to the California Department of Education, PBIS is a proactive, data-driven approach that emphasizes social-emotional learning, enhances student engagement, and mitigates problematic behaviors. By organizing and adopting evidence-based behavioral interventions, schools improve outcomes for all students.
