Lakeview Elementary School fourth and fight grade gifted and talented education (GATE) students recently took a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)-based field trip that included many fun activities. Students used microscopes to investigate marine flora and fauna. They gathered marine organisms, and experimented with underwater cameras. They also participated in an oil spill cleanup project. Their final activity was a boat ride to investigate and identify marine birds and sea life. To top the trip off, one of Lakeview’s parent volunteers brought ocean-themed cupcakes for all students to enjoy before heading home.
