Honor given, stories shared at Golden Armed Forces Day celebration

Golden Elementary School continued its tradition of honoring the men and women who serve our country during their Armed Forces Day celebration on Friday, May 20. Peer Assistance and Leadership (PAL) advisors Mrs. McBride, Mrs. Hope and Mrs. Bradley, working closely with PAL students, organized a touching school-wide tribute. The Color Guard from Esperanza High School’s Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) kicked-off the assembly by posting the state and national flag. Principal Roann Turk briefly thanked the honored guests for their service to our country. PAL students Ethan Chan and Katelyn Park led the student body in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Sophia Candela, Katie Norton and Katelyn Park led guests in “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Caitlyn Owens, Jeff Lee and Young Kim provided musical accompaniment. After a medley of military song, girls were gathered at the once lively feet of a World War II Women’s Army Corps (WAC) veteran as she recounted her wartime adventures. The gift of these stories will influence Golden students for a lifetime.
