Yorba Linda High hosts Battle of the Boulevard against Esperanza, brings home the crown

Last week was the annual rivalry between Yorba Linda High School and Esperanza High School, culminating with the Battle of the Boulevard football game. The YLHS associated student body (ASB) planned a fantastic week of activities for their fellow classmates. Starting on Sunday, they decorated the main quad with hundreds of posters to support athletes, with the alma mater hanging from the upper level. They also decorated the Chick-fil-A in Savi Ranch with navy, crimson and silver. On Friday, the band, color guard, cheer and song, football, and water polo teams lead a “Roaming Rally” in and out of the halls of the classrooms, ending in the central quad with a pep rally and Coach Bailey giving an inspirational speech. The Mustangs hosted the Aztecs in water polo on Friday, and lost a close match 6-5. Following the game, over 1,000 students went to the pre-football game rally in the gym, and were then lead to the stands by the YLHS drumline and entertainment unit. The football game was sold out, and the winner of the food drive contest was announced at halftime. The Mustangs collected nearly 45,000 items of food to win the drive for the third consecutive year. The football team defeated the Aztecs 42-3 in a non-league game. Overall, it was a great week of spirit by all students, staff and parents for the Mustangs.
