Two Parkview School parents, Jessie Fleming and Cat Cass, organized a camping club that is open to all Parkview families. This past fall, seven families went on their inaugural trip. This two-night outing was held at Prado Regional Park. Teaching children how to camp, how to care for the environment and what to do in the wilderness were just some of the valuable lessons learned. Each family brought a different level of expertise with them to share. Families could attend for the day or the weekend. Other activities included disc golf, hiking and horseback riding, as well as good old fashion fun.
Sometimes, independent study families feel isolated, so this was just one more opportunity that afforded networking and bonding for families with children of a variety of ages, new or seasoned to Parkview. The personal and family-oriented community feeling is part of what makes Parkview so successful.
The next trip is planned for the spring!
