Travis Ranch HOSA students compete at annual State Leadership Conference

Travis Ranch HOSA.

Students from the Travis Ranch HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) elective attended the annual State Leadership Conference in Long Beach from March 24 to 26. This conference brought together over 4,000 middle school and high school future health professionals from across California where they competed in medical competitions, heard inspirational speakers, attended leadership workshops, and gained college and career guidance.

Twelve students received medals in their competitions, the most they have ever received at Travis Ranch, including first-time gold medals! Congratulations to Emili Chavez, Chloe Wolken, and Lucy Lu for earning gold medals in the “Exploring Medical Innovations” competition; Ali Caldera, Malia Penrose, and Leilany Galindo for earning bronze medals in the “Exploring Medical Innovations” competition; and Riley Hannon, Riley Hannon, Marisol Lustina, Kyle Khong, Jacob Jia, and Levi Milan for earning bronze medals in the “Public Health” competition. Additionally, Kyle Khong placed in the top ten for the “Exploring Medical Terminology” competition, and the team of Audrina Ahmadian and Cali Penilla placed in the top ten for the “Health Career Display” competition.

Students in the “Exploring Medical Innovations” competition selected a recent advance in medicine to research, create a visual display, and give a speech to a panel of judges. Those participating in the “Public Health” competition gave a presentation to a panel of judges about why oral health affects the entire body’s health. The “Health Career Display” competition involved students making a board about a health career and presenting it to a panel of judges. Finally, the “Exploring Medical Terminology” competition involved a 50-question test covering thousands of medical terms. All students were coached by their advisors Mary Chapluk and Gina Beelner. Well done, Trailblazers!!!
