Twelve elementary schools in PYLUSD receive a “Gold Ribbon” award

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) is proud to announce that 12 elementary schools in the district recently earned the 2016 California Gold Ribbon Schools Award.

“This is an incredible accomplishment for our district,” said PYLUSD Superintendent Dr. Doug Domene. “These awards reflect each school’s success in creating a positive learning atmosphere for students. Such success is a direct result of our teachers’ dedication, creativity and talent, and our incredibly supportive school community. It truly is an ‘Advantage’ to attend our schools.”

The California Gold Ribbon Schools Award was created to honor schools in place of the California Distinguished Schools Program, which is on hiatus while California creates new assessment and accountability systems. Nearly 6,000 elementary schools were eligible to apply this year, and 772 total elementary schools were honored.

Schools applied for the award based on a model program or practice their school has adopted that includes standards-based activities, projects, strategies, and practices that can be replicated by other local educational agencies. The award recognized middle and high schools last year.

The 12 PYLUSD Gold Ribbon Schools will be officially honored in May during a regional ceremony in Anaheim.
