The Orange County Register is highlighting 100 people who changed lives in Orange County in 2016. Two recipients of this honor represent PYLUSD schools and students.

The newspaper featured philanthropist Marty Burbank, who, along with his wife, Seon Chun-Burbank, began supporting Rio Vista Elementary School a few years ago. Last February, they announced that they would pay the college tuition for all 26 kids in Mrs. Ashton’s kindergarten class at Rio Vista, a donation that Marty estimates will cost around $1.2 million. Additionally, Janet Evans, a graduate of El Dorado High School, was showcased for being considered the greatest female distance swimmer of the 20th century. Janet won three gold medals as an 18 year old at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. Today, she’s the face of a Los Angeles bid for the 2024 Games. Click here to read Janet’s article.
