GATE students at Fairmont Elementary begin Inventioneering Academy

Fairmont Elementary School fourth through sixth grade GATE students began their Inventioneering Academy in October with a study of Leonardo da Vinci and his use of simple machines. Through interactive lessons led by teacher, Mrs. Shea, students were introduced to da Vinci’s catapult and the mechanics that made it work. Modeling their work after da Vinci’s blueprints, students were then tasked with designing their own catapults which they then tested for accuracy and distance.

Next up, the Academy will be heading on a field trip to Trash for Teaching where they will put their engineering skills to the test by using recyclables to create the “Ultimate Recycling Machine and Creative Circuits.”  Great job, Falcons!
