Rayah Shapiro, a senior at Yorba Linda High School, has been on an amazing fashion journey.
Last year, Rayah had the opportunity to be a member of the Nordstrom BP. Fashion Board 2014-2015 program, which consisted of over 3,000 high school students from across the country who met once a month at select Nordstrom stores to discuss fashion and retail-related topics.
During this time, she was asked to design her own fashion collection, and was encouraged to submit a sketch for a chance to have her design produced by Nordstrom’s Product Group, and sold in the Nordstrom BP. Department and Nordstrom.com. Rayah’s sketch stood out amongst all other submissions, and the Nordstrom team was especially impressed with Rayah’s attention to detail and keen eye for what is currently trending. Rayah won the BP. Fashion Board Design contest!
After winning the contest, Rayah flew up to Seattle to visit Nordstrom corporate headquarters, and had the opportunity to meet the Nordstrom’s Product Group and observe a few design meetings with the BP. team. During these design meetings, Rayah took the opportunity to give her point of view and offer suggestions, which the designers appreciated. They even expressed how they wished Rayah could come to all of their design meetings!
As of Monday, Nov. 2, Rayah’s garment is available at Nordstrom.com as well as Nordstrom locations throughout the United States, including several California stores. The item number is: 5015176 (available in cream and black).
Nordstrom also posted about Rayah and her dress on their blog, The Thread. On Thursday, Dec. 3, the Orange County Register also featured an article about Rayah’s accomplishments.
This is an amazing start to Rayah’s future in the fashion industry. Congratulate Rayah when you see her!
Congratulations on such an honor, Rayah–you are an amazing young woman!
