YLHS students address societal problems at fourth annual “I Have A Dream” speech contest

I Have a Dream speech contest at YLHS.

On May 24, fourteen Yorba Linda High School students participated in the sixth annual “I Have A Dream” speech contest in the Forum Theatre.

This event was inspired by countless people throughout history including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who sacrificed so much to fight for what he believed was right and helped to make the world a better place.

The fourteen finalists courageously took on a societal problem in a three to five minute speech where they spoke about the importance of the issue and how they can help be a bridge to a world where that problem was addressed.

The Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary Club generously donated scholarships to the following students:

1st Place – Wayne Chan’s “Our Democracy” $200
2nd Place – Sydney Baugh’s “In Sickness & In Health” $150
3rd Place – Aino Hakkinen’s “A Lethal Problem” $100

In addition, attendees of the event donated over $300 to “Action Against Hunger,” a charity dedicated to bringing food and water to desperate people suffering from conflict, natural disasters and food crises.

Great job, Mustangs!
