Third grade students from Melrose Elementary School recently took a field trip to the Placentia Civic Center to get a close look at their local government and resources.
Students learned about the history of Placentia — from orange groves and packing houses to the oil industry. They also applied for library cards and learned what the Placentia library has to offer for children.
The Melrose Marlins also had the opportunity to tour the police station. They visited the dispatch center and listened to operators receive and dispatch calls. Placentia PD even let the students sit in their police cars!
Finally, students visited each department of the city hall to learn more about how they serve Placentia. The field trip ended with a Q & A session with Mayor Pro Tempore, Rhonda Shader.
