Parents of 3rd grade students at Melrose Elementary School in Placentia recently attended an AVID parent workshop. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, and is a nationwide a nonprofit that changes lives by helping schools shift to a more equitable, student-centered approach.
Melrose’s parents were given information specifically regarding the AVID implementations they will see with their 3rd grade students. WICOR strategies and growth mindset were part of the presentations to strengthen the relationship between school and home to support students.
At the end, parents made a growth mindset door hanger for their child, which included a special motivating message to share with their students.
