“Believe… that you can make a difference” are the words written on the medal neck ribbon from the “Run for a Claus” 5k held on Saturday, December 1 at University of California, Irvine (UCI). Fourteen 4th through 6th grade students from Ruby Drive Elementary School participated in the race wearing their brand new running shoes donated by the Girls on the Run organization.

The young students in the Girls on the Run Club at Ruby Drive have not only developed endurance to finish a race, but have also developed confidence to shine, respect for others, and a strong sense of teamwork.

According to Principal Diana McKibben, one 6th grade member of the club wisely commented, “Girls on the Run is about learning to love ourselves and accept ourselves for who we are.”

“These girls will undoubtedly make a difference in our world,” McKibben shared.
