Valencia High School’s (VHS) AVID Class of 2019 is the school’s largest to date, with 74 students. Notably, all of the school’s AVID seniors were accepted to a 4-year university!
Here are a few other AVID senior highlights as provided by the school:
- Students Andrea Cervantes & Abraham Sanchez were the first AVID/IB Dual Diploma recipients in the school’s history.
- Four were Angels Scholars (Andrea Cervantes, Abraham Gutierrez, Abraham Sanchez, Eleazar Urreiro)
- Three received Kingston Technology Scholarship recipients ($6000 renewable scholarships)
- Student Viridiana Espinoza was awarded the HIU Presidential Scholarship
- Seniors attending Signing Day at UCLA with Michelle Obama
- First AVID senior (AVID/IB candidate) accepted to UC Berkeley
- Angel Parmar & Julian Venegas accepted to Honors College at Cal Poly Pomona
- 82% of seniors will be attending a 4-year university
“The world better make room! We have a lot of Valencia Tigers who are chasing their dreams and accomplishing their goals,” shared Valencia teacher and AVID coordinator, Corinna Harnett.
AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a nonprofit organization that provides educators with proven, real-world strategies to accelerate the performance of all students so they have the tools to succeed in college, career, and life.
