On Friday, September 6, 2019, Valencia High School AVID hosted its fifth annual AVID Tailgate for over 400 of their own students, as well as students from Kraemer and Valadez middle schools along with their families.
With the VHS administrative team behind the grill, guests enjoyed hot dogs, chips, games, and a performance by the award-winning Valencia cheer team. After the BBQ, AVID families headed to Bradford Stadium to watch the Valencia Tigers’ varsity football team take on the Brea-Olinda Wildcats.
Every year, the AVID tailgate aims to build upon the 7-12 grade connection between the three AVID programs. Valencia also hopes the event motivates students to continue working hard to achieve their goals as they aim to attend a 4-year university after high school.
AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system that supports students in their quest to break educational barriers by enrolling in rigorous courses and experiences that will prepare them to be college and career ready.
