Under the guidance of advisors, Mrs. Leifeste and Mrs. Dykstra, students participated in campaigning and elections in early October to run for Brookhaven’s Student Council. During campaign week, candidates hung their posters daily and promoted their goals to their peers before participating in the election assembly. Each student gave thoughtful and engaging speeches, and in the end, new officers were elected. Congratulations to all the students who participated in the process and President Quinn Campuzano, Vice President Exodus Ponce, Recording Secretary Victoria Correa, Corresponding Secretary Evan Nam, 5th Grade Treasurer Eden Ponce, and 4th Grade Treasurer Juliette Larson.
The new council members have met and begun planning for upcoming “lunch activities” and the school’s annual Halloween dress-up day. Student Council also holds a weekly lunchtime Bingo game in Mrs. Leifeste’s classroom for 4th-6th grade students.
“Their leadership around campus is already making a great, pawsitive impact!” shared Principal Julie Lucas.
