On a cool Saturday morning, 11 Ruby Drive Elementary School students took on the challenge to participate in a 5K run on the campus of University of California, Irvine. As participants of the “Girls on the Run” program at Ruby Drive, these scholars have been preparing for this event by committing to two hours per week after school to exercise and learn about applying social-emotional skills.
The team of girls is led by Diana Duarte, a Ruby Drive alumni, who is now attending California State University, Fullerton. As a result of Ms. Duarte’s leadership and assistance, students have a sense of empowerment and understanding that they are valuable, talented girls who can achieve any goal they want to pursue whether as a group or individuals. For participating in the program, all 11 Ruby Drive runners received a pair of Asics shoes, a tee shirt, and a water bottle.
