El Camino art students win accolades at annual “Exposed Art and Literature Contest”

Art piece.

Congratulations to the El Camino Real High School winners of the Yorba Linda Public Library’s EXPOSED Art and Writing Contest, held last week at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library. In the Graphic Design Category, 20 finalists from El Camino were acknowledged. Honorable mention went to Kai Boisseranc and Brisa Rodriguez; 3rd place to Stephanie Partida; 2nd place to Christian Mendez; 1st place to Michael Lobato; People’s Choice went to Jillian Silvas. The Raptors swept the Digital Design category under the direction of ROP teacher, Mr. Reid Petersen, the North Orange County Regional Occupational Program Teacher of the Year 2020.

The image below was 1st place winner, Michael Lobato’s, submission to the EXPOSED contest. He offered the following explanation of his piece, “Into The Light.”

This picture represents a lucid dream because the little
monster is feeling sad. Everything around him is dark except a bright
circle with colorful butterflies coming out of it, telling him to not
be sad and to be happy. In my dreams sometimes there’s sad times where
everything is dark, but I’m strong and can pull myself out of it.
