On Sunday, December 8, the El Dorado High School (EDHS) Vocal Ensemble was 1 of 26 school, community, and college choirs selected across Southern California to perform in Disneyland’s Candlelight Processional & Ceremony. The choir went through a rigorous audition process and was chosen for the 2nd year in a row. Following selection, the choir had to prepare 12 pieces of music and attend regional rehearsals with the Disney Company a few weeks prior to the performance.
At Disneyland, the Candlelight Processional & Ceremony is traditionally scheduled twice nightly the first weekend of December and is held at the Main Street USA Train Station. The 45-minute show is a musical retelling of “The First Christmas” story through song and scripture, featuring a mass choir as the centerpiece of the show. The Disneyland Symphony Orchestra, fanfare trumpets, hand bell ringers, and a celebrity narrator join the choir in this joyous holiday tradition. This year’s celebrity narrator was actor, Lin Manuel Miranda!
“We were honored to be chosen again to represent our school and district in this prestigious event.,” Director of Choral Music, Ryan Yoder, said. “The students and myself were also thankful to have our Deputy Superintendent, Mrs. Candy Plahy, in attendance amongst many EDHS students and staff.”
