On Sunday, March 21, The Orange County Register announced the 2021 Artist of the Year nominees in the seven categories of dance, film/animation, instrumental music, vocal music, theater, computer-assisted visual arts, and handcrafted visual arts. In total, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) had 36 students nominated in six categories. They are as follows:

This year, a total of 616 students were nominated by teachers and private instructors from 72 Orange County high schools and arts organizations as the county’s standout arts students. Following the initial nominations, a panel of arts educators will narrow down the list and choose semi-finalists to move on to a round of in-person interviews. The semi-finalists will then be announced on Sundays beginning April 11. The top Artist of the Year for each discipline and finalists in each specialty will be announced May 2.
