Students from three PYLUSD high schools participate in first-ever Valencia Film Arts Film Festival

VHS film festival.

On Friday, May 21, Valencia High School hosted its first annual Valencia Film Arts Film Festival, which turned out to be a great success! There were 170 entries from students at El Dorado High School, Esperanza High School, and Valencia High School that teachers Rod Boaz, Sue Sawyer, Mark Switzer, and Grace Stanton refined down to 73. There were 7 categories and 7 judges who judged 1-3 categories each.

Students were designated as honorable mentions, top nominees, and the “best” for each category. All of these students received a certificate of recognition and the “bests” received a $50 check. To see the entries and learn more about the festival, visit https://spark.adobe.com/page/lLd3Bxm8HmmzI/.

The festival also included a special award called the “Curt Apduhan Award” to recognize the time and knowledge he has devoted to the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District’s media programs. It is the “Best in Show” award and he selected the documentary short, “Made with Love” by Alexa Riddle from Valencia High School. Way to go, Hawks, Aztecs, and Tigers!
