Recently in AP Environmental Science (APES) at Esperanza High School, the class has participated in a variety of labs. This includes a lab evaluating the effects of different doses of nicotine toxicity on blackworms. Students could see the real-time effects of drug usage and recovery time while coming to the conclusion that the dose determines the toxicity. Post-lab discussions expanded into additional studies evaluating the effects of caffeine and alcohol on blackworms as well. Relevant topics for these juniors and seniors to consider as they make the transition into adulthood.
