Ruby Drive Elementary School is participating in the “All About Food” gardening project. This is a volunteer organization that has a mission of eliminating childhood malnutrition and obesity through nutrition. Volunteers built the foundations to a garden bed at Ruby Drive at the start of the school year.
Recently Mrs. Pak/Mrs. Vaught and Mrs. Chappelle’s third grade classes have been working in the gardens. The students added decaying leaves to the compost bin. This will eventually be used as fertilizer. They also added worms to the garden. These worms will plow through the soil allowing water and air to get to the roots of the plants. Finally, they thinned out the garden to allow for more growth.
Students at Ruby Drive are learning a lot as they participate in this special gardening project.
